So 1L is over

Well, all exams are done, and there is nothing to do but to sit and wait as the grades trickle in. All in all I think that if I took the entire amount of time that I studied in my whole life it wouldnt add up to the amount of time I studied for finals over the past two weeks. If I dont succeed its not because I didnt give it everything I could. Now my attention turns to pressing the flesh in the courthouse and doing a good job for my judge. I hope this leads me to a paying gig next summer, hopefully with the prosecutors office. For the next two weeks however, law is going to be the last thing on the list. I am going to slowly start working my way down my honeydo list that has accumulated over the past year, starting with fixing the toilet and organizing my garage. I also have to start working on getting my handicap back down to a semi respectable level. I'm looking forward to reading some books completely unrelated to the law and getting reengergized next semester which may quite possibly kill me. I am taking Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Trial Advocacy, Professional responsibility, and Constitutional law. But that is a ways away and for today Im just going to enjoy the nothingness.

Last Day of Class

So this is basically the last class day of 1L for me. It seems like the year has flown by. Everyone asks me if you could do something differently would you? I don't really know the answer to that question. I don't think there is much I could have done differently. I think I missed less than a half dozen classes all year, I took pretty good notes, I read every case for every class. The only thing I think I would do differently is start studying for exams earlier last semester. I would do more practice tests and just develop verbal diahrea in every subject. I'm looking forward to clerking for a judge in Dallas this summer, I just wish I was going to get paid for it. It will be good for establishing connections in the community if I end up starting my own firm. I am starting today studying for Property which is on Tuesday. I'll let you all know how it goes. Good luck to all you students doing finals!

Clerkship Interview

Well, today I had an interview with a 3 attorney law firm in Rogers, AR. I guess the interview went well, but as usual there are 15 people interviewing for 1 job. This is a firm that I would really love to work for because it is the size of the firm that I want to eventually start and the people were extremely friendly. If you didn't already know though, the job prospects for first year law students are not too bright especially in Arkansas.
Now that the interview is over, the waiting process begins. It takes somewhere between a week and 10 days usually before you hear anything back from the firms. If my interview was really good, I may get a second interview and then if I pass that, I will get the job.
Exams start a week from Tomorrow, and I have to say that I am getting a little nervous about my grades. I guess I will give it one solid week of studying and then let the chips fall where they may.

Weekend Update

So, I have spent more time this weekend playing Madden '06 and looking up offices where my future firm could possibly end up being than I have learning the material for my exams. Not good! Last semester turned out pretty well and I feel I was in this exact position about 5 months ago, so maybe it isn't so bad. So, it looks like the firm will either be in Dallas, Tulsa, or Houston depending on a number of factors. I have been researching offices and there are some nice, relatively cheap places in every city. Hopefully one day it actually comes to fruition. Alright, well I'd better go learn some Civil Procedure (I haven't been to class most of the semester because the teacher is boring and doesn't take attendance!)

Thoughts Leading up to Exams

Well, it is now officially a little less than 2 weeks until exams. I am not really confident about my grasp of the material yet. For some reason all I can do is think about the NFL draft and my future as a practicing attorney and I am losing sight of the present.
I haven't been able to get a summer job yet, but I am taking a very full load of summer school so that I may be able to graduate early. I have 2 more interviews with law firms for part time summer jobs, so hopefully one pans out.
I have been thinking a lot lately about starting my own practice whether it be right out of law school or shortly thereafter. I know it is a risk, but I just don't want to work for someone else for the rest of my life. Well, I should be updating this more often than not, but just to give you an update of my schedule next year it is:
Summer Session: LRW III, Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, Drafting
Fall Session: Debtor/Creditor, Solo Practice Planning, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Intellectual Property
Total Credits Completed Between Fall/Summer: 28
